Letter from Dr. Green

Greetings!

What the heck is a detox program? I'm glad you asked. Detoxification is an ongoing process that's happening in your body as we speak. The main detox organ is the liver, but there are many different systems involved. The sweat glands, lymph system, lungs, nose, kidneys, gall bladder, and intestines are all involved in one way or another.

The liver is the most important organ and the most abused. Over the last few decades our environment has become increasingly more toxic. Especially in a big city like Chicago, there are more and more toxic chemicals in the air we breathe, the water we drink, the things we touch and eat. Even without all of these toxins, the liver has the job of clearing many of the natural toxins and breakdown products that are byproducts of our growth and metabolism in even the least toxic environments.

Add up all of the strange chemicals we have discovered and synthesized and you can imagine how hard your liver is working. Think of all the pesticides, sweeteners, medications, alcohol, and hormone-like substances on our food, make-up and cosmetics and you will get a big appreciation for your liver. Put your right hand over your lower right ribs and repeat after me, "Thanks liver!"

It amazes me that the liver has a way of getting rid of strange compounds that were never found in nature before. The problem is that it can't always keep up and toxins can accumulate in your tissues leading to excessive oxidative stress, and possibly DNA damage at the cellular level. And you know what DNA damage leads to...cancer.

Symptoms of toxicity can include headaches, fatigue, insomnia, immune system weakness and chronic GI problems. In order to clear out these accumulated toxins, we can "DUMP the JUNK" with a detox program.

Our detox program supports the cleansing of the liver and bowel with a modified elimination diet which will help remove foods that commonly cause food sensitivities and concentrate on healthy alternatives. The program provides supplements to support the liver and facilitate excretion of toxins, and a supportive group atmosphere with coaching and supervision by a nutritionist and medical doctor (that's ME.)

Sincerely,
Dr. Green

Detox Details
The nutritional coaching, support and information is all FREE. The only cost to you will be the supplements necessary for the detox program. We have two levels of detoxification based on how thorough you want to be with your detox program. The higher level detox will require more supplements which will increase the cost. The "bare bones" detox will use less in the way of supplements and cost less.

The details will be covered on January 14th at the information session. This session is not mandatory, but is important in understanding the specifics of the program including how your body works, the diet modifications, and an outline of exactly what we will be doing.

If you cannot make all the classes, don't worry, you can still sign up and we will support you.

As much as I know about detoxification, I have never done a 3 week program myself. So, I am looking forward to doing this program right by your side!

LightCare Medical Spa is All in the Family

Recently our receptionist, Sarah, took a new position that will allow her more flexibility to take classes as she pursues her career in medicine. We wish her all the best!

In this transition period I have recruited the services of Joyce Harris to manage the front desk responsibilities. Joyce is none other than my own Mom, and I am happy to be working with her and thankful for her help and support.

Joyce has a long history in sales, phone support, office management and customer relations. She will be happy to take care of whatever she can to make your experience with us as positive as it has always been. She will be part time in the office 12-6 on most days.

So when you hear a new voice on the other end of the phone, please be patient as she has jumped in with both feet and is getting familiar with you and the intricacies of my office systems.

Welcome aboard Mom!
